We go camping at Devil's Lake every fall and every year we go to Pumphouse for their prime rib dinner on Saturday night. Every year we have had a great experience....until this last time. We arrived at Pumphouse around 6pm on Saturday Sept. 24th. There were only 2 other tables filled. We were seated almost immediately. It wasn't busy. We all placed our orders and the waitress was friendly...we've had her before and she is always great. So we all placed our orders. This was the last time we would see our server for the next almost 2 hours. Our food took nearly 2 hours to come out. 2 hours! We stayed patient because we had been camping and it was nice to be indoors and have wifi. When the food finally did arrive, all of our meals were cold. All of them. The prime rib was ridiculously fatty. On a queen cut prime I literally only was able to get 6 bites of actual meat....and it was cold. Everyone else had the same problem. I have no idea what was going on. We could see the server in the kitchen crying and the restaurant seemed to be in total chaos. During our 2 hour wait we noticed that the restaurant kept filling up with more diners who appeared to be experiencing similar frustrations. The table next to us was sat and we heard the waitress tell them they were out of prime rib. How you run out of prime rib by 7pm on the night of a prime rib special is beyond me. Something clearly was going on. When we finally got the bill I asked to speak with the manager because I wasn't going to pay full price for the meal. We waited for another full half hour and he still hadn't come out so we just left cash on the table and walk out. Absolutely miserable experience. It was particularly frustrating and embarrassing for me as I had talked up the place for months leading up to the trip. Disaster. Will have to find another area restaurant for our yearly Saturday night feast from now on.
