I understand why Dr. Juan Diaz has very close to a 5 star rating - He is a very nice man. Being a nice man does not make you a good or great doctor. Although my 83 year old mother likes Dr. Diaz a great deal, the truth is he has horrifically failed her as a doctor. She had heart surgery 15 years ago. She has been in the care of Dr. Diaz for several years. We entrusted our mother's life to him, and he failed her gravely. And now she will lose her life because he failed her gravely. Just 9 months ago he did what was called a stress test on our mother's heart. He said she was great and would likely live another 10 plus years. While he was telling us this, our mother had a build-up of calcium which took place over the years he cared for her, and a valve on the opposite side of the valve that was repaired by Dr. Ferrante of Appleton medical Center was bleeding badly. The valve Dr. Ferrante repaired is still perfect. Truth be told the entire time Dr. Diaz cared for her he never kept a vigilant watch on her heart. Common sense would dictate that if a person has heart surgery, the doctor handling the after care would take images at least once per year. He never did this once. Our mother's primary care doctor is Dr. Jennifer Bissell. Several times she requested an ultrasound. It never got done. And when Dr. Bissell realized something was seriously wrong with our mother, again she requested an ultrasound, and Dr. Diaz still drug his feet. When he finally did the ultrasound it was misplaced. By this time our mother's kidneys and liver started to fail, because of the heart failure. You may be a nice guy Dr. Diaz, but you are not a great doctor, not even a good one. Not by a long shot. I'll take a doctor who actually looks at my heart as opposed to telling me jokes and making me laugh. You made our mother laugh Dr. Diaz. She not only trusted you, she praised you and she trusted you with her life. For this she she is on her death bed. Dr. Diaz, let me tell you who our mother is. She is a strong woman, who has always been bigger than life. She is a giant of a human. It is often said that women are chipping at the glass ceiling, our mother smashed that glass ceiling 50 plus years ago. Our sister Barb takes care of our mom. She believed in you, and she believed you were giving our mom the best care in the world. She always diligently listened to your instructions. And now Dr. Diaz, I would like to ask you what you are doing for Christmas? I can tell you what our family is doing. We are watching our mother die, because you failed her. What makes it harder is this is a woman who should have lived several more years.
