My sister and I love the Dodge Co. area, and go on a couple of sister's weekends a year. We took a chance at the Dartford Inn, even though it was a bit non-standard, as far as motels/hotels go. We stayed a long weekend last October ('12) and loved it! There weren't many others in rooms, which was fine with us. It's what one might consider a bit of roughing it in the sense that you have to bring your own soap & shampoo, etc. Towels, all cooking utensils, a stove, small fridge, and all other amenities are hidden behind these cool, retro cabinet doors in the small kitchen. The heat worked fine; the shower was adequate, but the views of the river were awesome! This place is so neat! It was built out of re-purposed telephone poles in the late 1940's, and apparently has been a pretty popular stay-over location for hunters, golfers & fishermen, as well as sisters out exploring the world together. I was a little disappointed at the spring rates (we're leaving tomorrow for another weekend there), vs. the "out of season" rates; too much of a jump in price for what you're getting. All in all, we were charmed, and we're returning for the spring season with nothing but excitement!
